i need a rear shift lever for a 1960 schwinn continental which is mounted on the lower front frame tube made by Hurrett.
Hello Mark. I just wanted to let you know that the shift lever your looking for is a SIMPLEX unit. I have a 60 Radiant Red Continental and that’s whats on it. I’ve also seen others with the same unit. I also have a 60 Black Varsity with the same make of lever but a different STYLE lever, which is what I’ve seen on other 60 Varsitys. For some reason, it appears that Schwinn used a certain style lever for the Varsity, and a certain style for the Continental. It may have been to help distinguish between the two bikes. The Cont. lever has an “S” on it, where you put your fingers to shift. BTW, there’s a Simplex lever on ebay right now, but DOES NOT appear to be the right one——it DOES NOT look EXACTLY like mine, though the shape/profile is correct. I think mine is correct, based on the others I’ve seen. Regards, Dave.
